Football sweeps, Volleyball and Women's Soccer also snag Conference Player of the Week Honors

BOONE, IOWA - Five Reiver athletes took home ICCAC Player of the Week Honors for the week of October 1st.

Football - Iowa Western claimed their 9th straight ICCAC conference championship on Saturday after defeating Ellsworth 33-10 in Iowa Falls. The Reivers were led by quarterback Tyriek Starks who connected on 16 of 25 passes for 222 yards and three touchdowns. Additionally, he put up 55 yards on nine rushes and added another score. Starks has been efficient all year, throwing 10 touchdowns to just two interceptions and zero in the last four weeks. In all, he has thrown for 877 yards.

Korey Hernandez played opportunistically in the Reivers win over Ellsworth on Saturday. On the day from his safety position, Hernandez made eight tackles but more importantly, caused two fumbles. He is currently the team's fourth leading tackler with 33 on the season. The eight were his second-highest this season behind a nine-tackle performance at Garden City on Sept. 22.

Hunter Pinegar controlled the field position game on Saturday as Iowa Western took down Ellsworth. The sophomore from Ankeny kicked off five times, three which resulted in touchbacks. Then, on a fairly quiet day, Pinegar punted just twice but was able to pin the Panthers inside the 20-yard line on one attempt. It was the ninth time this season that he has back a team up into their own red zone, 12th most in the NJCAA. In 26 punts this year, Pinegar is averaging 35.4 per boot.

Volleyball - Iowa Western capped off a perfect week after starting it by securing the 2018 ICCAC regular season conference title beating Indian Hills 3-1. Genesis Sheridan hit 15 of 22 with no errors in the match versus the Warriors. Currently, the freshman is third in the in NJCAA in hitting efficiency at .477. Last week in 17 sets she collected 46 kills on 75 attempts with only three errors. She also added seven digs and nine blocks. The Reivers went 5-0 in all.

Women's Soccer - Iowa Western rolled twice more last week in two wins over Iowa Lakes (7-0) and Scott (13-0). Laura Chavez had an amazing week assisting her teammates, just as she has done all year. Last week, she matched a Reiver record for assists in a game with five. Then, after adding four more, she set an Iowa Western record for assists in a career with 37. This year she has 21 total assists, third most in the NJCAA. She also has 11 goals and is 20th in points with 43.
