Iowa Western Reivers

The Reivers make the National Tournament

#25 NJCAA ranked team Iowa Western is on their way to Nationals this year after their big win over Mineral Area to clinch the District K championship this past Friday.

The Reivers jumped out to an early 11-0 lead to start the game and maintained a comfortable cushion. In the second half Mineral Area cut it to 7pts but the Iowa Western defense proved to be too much for the Cardinals.

Freshman Delia Ania-Gaja had an outstanding game going 5-8 from the 3 point line; ending with 21 points 5 steals and 7 assist, sophomore Melis Ucar followed with 14 points.

This will be the Reivers first appearance at the National Tournament since the 2014-15 season under former coach Jim Turgeon. “I am so proud of these young ladies, Head Coach Lindsey Vande Hoef stated. Towards the end of the season we had a couple of losses that could’ve kept us down as a unit; instead we bounced back and ended the regular season as champions. As a coach to see your girls never give up and fight to the end is an honor.”

The ladies will go on as the #22 seed at the National Tournament and will face off against #11 seed Northeastern Oklahoma A&M in the tournament’s first round. Tip off starts at 12PM on Tuesday March 21st at Lubbock Christian University in Lubbock, TX.
