Iowa Western Reivers

Softball Sweeps Southeast CC

Iowa Western’s softball team has had trouble putting together a complete game this season, coach Ben Greer said.

The Reivers did it twice Friday, hammering Southeast (Neb.) 12-0 and 12-1 in a home doubleheader.

“Throughout the year, we have had a tendency to get a big lead and kind of put it on cruise control,” Greer said. “Tonight, we did a good job of keeping the pressure on throughout the game and defending. Today was easily our best day of the year.”

Big innings were a theme in both games. Trish Sherman’s grand slam fueled a six-run second inning in the opener, and the Reivers strung together 11 hits for 10 runs in the third inning of the nightcap. The big blow of the 10-run inning was Zoe Hicks’ two-run triple. Sherman also added a solo homer in the second game.

Pitcher Brieanna Brock threw a one-hitter in the opener, and Alyx Hagen fired a six-hitter in the second game.
