Iowa Western Reivers


2017- SDSU DII Invite

The Iowa Western track and field team traveled to South Dakota State University in Billings, South Dakota for the SDSU DII Invite.  The Reivers brought the majority of their squad, but left home some key athletes to give them rest for next week’s Jayhawk Classic at the University of Kansas in Lawrence.

The field and running events started at 2:00 PM.  There were 8 national qualifier, school record broken, and a sweep the men’s 60m and 200m race.  Led by sophomore Tremayne Flagler blazing the track with a time of (6.81 ) in the 60m transfer sophomore Shaheed Hickman follows with a time of (6.83) The 200m would be all Reivers as well led by Shaheed Hickman with a time of (22.00) and followed closely by transfer sophomore Akiel Smith with a time of (22.01). Freshman Paul Tate and Renardo Wilson qualify in the 600m led by Paul Tate with a time of (1:20.60) the fastest time in NJCAA at this time Renardo Wilson runs a time of 1:22.36 good for the 4th spot on the NJCAA lead boards. The men’s 4x4 leaves the field by more than 2 seconds with a time of (3:20.32) with Renardo Wilson Akiel Smith Vincent Gordon Paul Tate. On the Women’s side Hurdler Dasia Sanders runs a time (9.09) taking the 5th spot on the NJCAA ranks. Freshman Sharon Mainor get qualified it the 400m with a time of (59.00) Sophomore Chyna Watson- Reid qualifies in the 200m with a time of (25.40) Transfer sophomore Saqukine Cameron qualifies in the 400m with the 3rd fastest time in NJCAA with a time of (57.03). Shanieke Watson kills the competition in the 3k running a time of (10:38.73) placing her 4th overall in NJCAA. For the 4 competition in a row the Iowa Western women’s pole vault has been broken by NJCAA’S top two female pole vaulters. This week it was broken by French freshman Salome` Brugier with a jump of (3.56m) and just missed having a PR at (3.71m) that jumps puts her back on top of the lead board just ahead of her teammate.

The Reivers will gear up for a two day meet next Thursday, January 26th, and Friday, January 27th, for the Jayhawk Classic in Lawrence at the University of Kansas.  This meet will be a great test for the Iowa Western track and field team against some stiff Division 1 competition
