Russian Outside Hitter Joins Reiver Volleyball

Irina Alekseeva, a 6’1 OH from Saratov Russia is the newest member of the 2017 Reiver squad. She moved to the United States with her family four years ago and currently lives in New York. Irina just finished her senior year at Beacon High School, where she lettered three years in volleyball and averaged 21 kills per game. She also earned a “Best Player” award all three of those years. Irina started playing volleyball at the age of eight in her hometown City of Saratov. In Russia, she was part of the Sports School for Olympic Reserve for 3 years, and participated in the Russian National Championship with a team coached by Natalia Khlopkova.  Sports run deep in her family's roots. Her father was a heavyweight professional boxer, while her grandfather, Nikolay Alekseev, was the Honored Coach for a Russian volleyball team after being a member of the USSR National team. Her grandmother was a gymnast, her uncle played basketball, and her mother was a track-and-field athlete.

While at Iowa Western, she plans to major in Marketing. Irina is the daughter of  Natalia Alekseeva and Eugene Erashenko.
