Iowa Western Reivers

Former Reiver Guard Xavier Munford Continues Success as Pro

Xavier Munford is currenlty playing for the NBA D-League team Greensboro Swarm.  In a recent game against the Erie Bayhawks, Munford posted 20 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists to go down in history as the first Greensboro Swarm player to post a triple-double. The 6’3 point guard is currently averaging 18.7 points, 5.3 assists and 4.7 rebounds per game.  Munford’s success is not going unnoticed as he currently ranks 5th on the NBA D-League Prospect Watch list which predicts which players will be next to be called up to play with an NBA team.

In a similar situation last year, Munford’s phenomenal performances for another NBA D-League affiliate, the Bakersfield Jam, earned him a spot on the Memphis Grizzlies roster in March of 2016.  He finished the final 14 games of the 2016 NBA season for the Grizzlies playing 17.4 minutes per game and averaged 5.7 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists.

Xavier starred for Iowa Western in 2011-12 season when he led the Reivers to a 24-9 record and led the team in three-point field goals made and scoring by averaging 16.6 points per game.  In 2012 he was named an NJCAA All-American and signed to play for NCAA Division I University of Rhode Island.

Munford's successful path continued during his junior and senior seasons and finished his Rhode Island career averaging 17 points a game.  His scoring abilities also put him in the Rhode Island history books as he became the fastest player in program history to score 1,000 points.
