Reivers Compete at Cowboy Jamboree

The Reiver cross country team traveled to Stillwater, Oklahoma to race at the Cowboy Jamboree on Saturday morning. The Cowboy Jamboree was one of the biggest meets of the weekend and provided the Reivers with some of their hardest competition of the season. The men’s and women’s teams place 14 and 17th respectively.

The men were led by Fabian Garcia (28:36) and Herick Walters (28:49) who finished in 52 and 60th place in the 8km race. Chaz Berry ran the best race of his career and was the 3rd Reiver to cross the line in a time of 29:10, good for 68th place. Martin Garcia (75th, 29:26) and Lotfi Cherbel (29:51) finished out the Reiver top 5.

Shanieke Watson paced the women to a 17th place finish. She finished in 4th place with a time of 18:56, 30 seconds faster than her time from last year. Freshman Taylor Valentine continued to finish as the Reivers second runner at the jamboree. She finished in 82nd place with a time 21:58. Purity Chebet (97th, 22:37), Paige Baier (104, 22:53), and Hayley Wagner (109, 23:07) competed well to close out the women’s top 5 scorers.

The Reiver cross country team will have next weekend off from competition and will travel to Fort Hayes, Kansas for the Tiger open on October 8th.
