The Green Bay Packers have added receiver Geronimo Allison to their 53-man roster as they prepare for Sunday’s road game against the Atlanta Falcons

According to 247Sports, the Packers needed to move a wide receiver to the active roster in order to replace the injured Jared Abbrederis. Abbrederis was placed on the Injured Reserve list with a thigh contusion on Monday.

Geronimo Allison is originally from Tampa, Florida. Allison started his college career playing two seasons for JUCO (junior college) Iowa Western Community College. He was listed as a three star wide receiver JUCO recruit by and chose to accept a football scholarship from Big Ten school Illinois over Big 12 schools Iowa State and Kansas State.

At Illinois, Allison was one of the top receivers in the conference during his two seasons playing for the Fighting Illini. He caught 106 passes for 1,480 yards and eight touchdowns, one of which included this game winning gem over Nebraska.

It’s extraordinary the player finds himself in a position to catch passes from one of the top quarterbacks in the game in Aaron Rodgers. Allison was not selected in the the 2016 draft but was quickly picked up by the Packers and had his opportunities in training camp and in preseason.

What does Geronimo Allison bring to the Packers?

He’s not a burner. He ran a 4.58 40-yard dash at the NFL Draft combine. Compare that to the fastest 40-time by a wide receiver in the in the draft, which was a 4.32 by former Notre Dame and current Houston Texans player Will Fuller.

What Allison does bring is some sure hands and great body control, especially in tight spaces and while covered. He’s a solid route runner and his attitude/intangibles are off the charts. He has a reputation as a stand-up teammate and responded well in pressure situations while at Illinois.

Geronimo Allison is a player that thrives when challenged, and he could have an impact against the Falcons with Jared Abbrederis on IR.
