Reivers regain the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference Title

The Reiver men’s soccer program regained the ICCAC crown from Marshalltown Tigers who had won last year’s conference championship. The Reivers ended the season with a 14-1-1 record, outpacing the Tigers by two games; even though, the only two blemishes on their conference record came from the Tigers. The Reivers lost at Marshalltown and tied at home. This marks the eighth ICCAC title in nine seasons for the Reivers. Also, they will look to earn four straight and a seventh Region XI title in nine years.

Regional play begins on Wednesday with No. 1 seed Reivers facing No. 8 seed Northeast CC Hawks. Northeast recently battled Scott CC to a 3-1 win in the playoff play-in game. The Reivers swept the Hawks in both meetings earlier this year, outscoring the Hawks, 14-0. The winner of tomorrow’s match will face the winner of No. 4 seed Indian Hills and No. 5 seed Iowa Central. Indian Hills swept the season series between Iowa Central, but by only one goal each game. The semi-final and final matches will be played at the James W. Cownie Soccer Park, 2600 Hartford Avenue, Des Moines, IA with 2:00 pm kickoffs. For more tournament details visit the ICCAC website, www.iccac.org, or http://www.iccac.org/article/2842.php.

The Reivers concluded the regular season with multiple records broken. The Reivers broke the 2007 goals in a game record of 15 goals by scoring 20 goals versus Scott CC. In the match there were four hat-tricks, most in a game to be recorded, with Kwesi Allen, William Ramirez, Joao Burti, and Ali Ibrahim all scoring hat-tricks. In this game, with the help of 12 different Reivers, they broke the 2014 record of 13 assists in a game with 16 assists. Central defender, Eric Ganime became the third Reiver ever to record four assists in a match tying the 2012 single game record of 4 assists. The Reivers broke the 2013 record of 87 goals in a regular season with 89 goals scored. They also came 3 assists shy of breaking the 2013 assists record of 79 assists. The first time in Reiver history where there are four different goal scorers with double digit goal totals; Kwesi Allen, 13, Joao Burti, 12, William Ramirez, 12, & Leandro Avila, 11. Another remarkable feature of the 2016 season was that every player except for two goalkeepers earned a goal or an assist on the season. A remarkable 23 of 25 players earned a point or more. Truly a tremendous team effort was displayed!
