Reivers Remain Undefeated in Conference Play

Council Bluffs, IA –Iowa Western Women’s Soccer won its fifth consecutive conference match to improve to 6-1 on the season and 5-0 in conference play.  The Reivers defeated Scott Community College 6-0 Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:  The Reivers scored two early goals to jump out to a 2-0 lead in the first seven minutes. Freshman Alex Allgaier played a ball into space for team captain Amelia Fullmer to hammer into the back of the net in the 6th minute.  Fullmer then played a ball into the box for Eva Castano to finish in the 7th minute.  The Reivers completed 345 passes in the first half alone, but didn’t score for the remainder of the first half.

After the intermission, Iowa Western continued to dominate possession and create quality chances.  In the 64th minute Kierra Little found Iowa native Lizbeth Ochoa to put the Reivers up 3-0.  Carly Richins found the back of the net in the 66th minute and the 82nd minute with assists from Daniela Cardona and Cristina Moreno respectively.  In the 88th minute, Castano played a ball for Ochoa to finish.  Sophomore goalkeeper Rebecca Jenson earned her sixth shutout on the year.

NOTES & NUMBERS: The Iowa Western Women’s Soccer team moves to 5-0 in the ICCAC. Nine different players have scored goals to combine for a team total of 34 goals in seven games.  The Reivers have only allowed one goal on the season.

QUOTES:  “We gave the girls two tasks to complete today. We asked them to complete 500 passes and score a goal within the first 13 minutes of the game. They exceeded our expectations and completed 633 passes in the match and scored two goals in the first seven minutes. We are very proud of their response! We are grateful to have several days off so that we can recover and prepare for Indian Hills who is currently undefeated in conference play as well.”

UP NEXT:  The Reivers will play their Blue vs White Scrimmage on Monday, September 12th.  The team has a much needed ten day break and will return to conference play on Tuesday, September 20th against Indian Hills Community College.  The match will be played at the Reiver Sports Complex at 2:00pm.  The matches can be viewed live at Match updates can be found on Twitter at @ReiverWSoccer.
