Reivers Defeat Second Place Warriors 7-0
Council Bluffs, IA - The #7 ranked Iowa Western Women's Soccer Team extended their first place lead to 2 games in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) by defeating conference opponent Indian Hills CC (5-2-0). The Reivers used 4 first half goals en route to a 7-0 win to grab all 3 conference points on a hot Tuesday afternoon. The win keeps IWCC perfect in conference play through the first half of the season and 7-1-0 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED - The Reivers started quickly when freshman Kate Reddish (Utah) played sophomore Eva Castaño (Spain) in behind the Warrior defense. The sophomore All-American finished the 1 v 1 with a clever chip to put the Reivers up inside 4 minutes. Castaño turned provider 5 minutes later when she found strike partner Maria Guzman (Colombia) in the six yard box for an easy tap in. Castaño would extend the lead to 3 with her second goal of the match when Sara Paez (Colombia) player through once again in the 35th minute. Lizbeth Ochoa (Iowa) struck seconds before halftime after completing a 50 yd run to get on the end of freshman Daniela Cardona's (Colombia) cross in the 6 yard box.
Guzman provided the finishing touch to Castaño's 52' cross inside the 18 yd box to complete her brace extend the lead to 5-0. Castaño completed her hat trick in the 70' with her best of the day volleying home Cardona's cross from close range. Castaño also collected hat trick of assists after finding Paez on a well-timed run that put her in 1v1 with the Warrior keeper. The freshman deftly chipped the on coming keeper from 16 yards out to cap a dominant performance by the home side.
Sophomore goalkeeper Becca Jenson (Utah) collected her 7th shut-out in 8 matches, making 5 crucial saves to maintain the clean sheet.
NOTES & NUMBERS - Castaño found her rhythm increasing her goal tally to 8 goals on the year to go along with her team high 9 assists. The Reivers completed 503 passes on the day, which created to 27 chances. The Reiver defense has yet to concede a goal in conference play midway through the conference season. Guzman leads the team in multi-goal games 4 on the year.

The team made some great adjustments on the field to counter how IHCC tried to defend. That was great to see from this group. We know we haven't accomplished much this season yet, but we're excited for the second half of the season, which is always the most important."
