Reivers win ICCAC Conference Title with Perfect 12-0 Record

Council Bluffs, IA –The Iowa Western Women’s soccer team won the ICCAC conference title by earning a perfect 12-0 record in conference play this season. This is the 11th consecutive conference title for the women’s soccer program. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:  The conference requires each team to play each other twice, once at home and once away.  Iowa Western was challenged during its second meeting with almost every team, but was able to pull out six victories. 

September 28th – The Reivers headed to Norfolk, Nebraska to play Northeast Community College on a narrow turf field.  Iowa Western had numerous chances to score, but could not find the back of the net until Laura Cook put away the game winner off of a corner kick in overtime.  The Reivers won 1-0. Sophomore goalkeeper, Rebecca Jenson, earned her 8th shutout of the season.

October 5th – Iowa Western took on the defending national champions, Iowa Central, at home.  The Reivers scored first when Lizbeth Ochoa found Eva Castaño in the 62nd minute.  Iowa Central’s Nicole Wenzl scored the equalizer in the 78th minute.  Lizbeth Ochoa earned her second assist of the game by finding Sara Paez, who headed the ball into the back of the net in the 85th minute.  Eva Castaño blew past the ICCC defense in the 90th minute off of a Maria Guzman pass to put away one final goal before the whistle.  The Reivers won 3-1.

October 12th – The Reivers traveled to Spencer, Iowa to take on Iowa Lakes CC for a second match.  The Reivers won 2-0.  Daniela Cardona scored the first goal off of a cross by Maria Guzman in the 52nd minute.  Eva Castaño found the back of the net in the 85th minute to give Iowa Western a comfortable lead for the remainder of the match. Rebecca Jenson earned her 9th shutout of the year.    

October 18th – Iowa Western headed to Ottumwa, Iowa to take on #17 Indian Hills.  IHCC struck first by capitalizing on a mistake by the Reivers’ back line in the 8th minute of the match.  Amelia Fullmer scored the equalizer in the 43rd minute after the ball bounced around in the box.  The Reivers were tied 1-1 at the break.  In the 73rd minute, Iowa Western scored an amazing team goal.  Every single field player touched the ball leading up to the game winner.  Lizbeth Ochoa is credited with the assist and Amelia Fullmer scored the game winner.  The Reivers won 2-1.

October 19th – The Reivers took on Hawkeye CC for the Pink Out game and Sophomore Day.  The Reivers dominated possession by completing over 600 passes in the game.  Carly Richins scored the first two goals with assists for Samantha Guadarrama and Maria Guzman respectively.  Daniela Cardona scored the next two goals, which were both off of beautiful crosses from sophomore defender, Abigail Bishop.  The final goal of the game was scored by Guadarrama off the Amelia Fullmer cross.  The Reivers won 5-0 in their last home match. Sophomore goalkeeper, Rebecca Jenson earned her 10th shutout of the year. 

October 22nd – Iowa Western traveled to Scott CC in Bettendorf, Iowa for the final match of the regular season.  The Reivers trailed 2-0 at halftime after a couple of defensive miscues.  Iowa Western fought back in the second half.  Lizbeth Ochoa scored for the Reivers in the 74th minute off of a pass from Sara Paez.  Samantha Guadarrama scored the equalizer off of a corner kick in the 84th minute.  Amelia Fullmer earned the assist.  The Reivers were tied 2-2 at the end of regulation. In the 97th minute Fullmer found Guadarrama for the game winner.  The Reivers won 3-2 and finished perfect in conference play!
