COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA: The Reivers win their 13th straight match as they defeat Iowa Central Community College in the Region XI Championship game.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Reivers came out focused and ready for their matchup against Iowa Central Community College in the ICCAC Region XI Championship. It was freshman Kauany Sousa who was first able to put the ball in the back of the net for the Reivers in the 7th minute, assisted by sophomore Alex Boss. In the 16th minute, Iowa Western had a corner kick. Blanca Osorio was able to find Veronica Herrera on the back post, where Veronica redirected the ball and put it away. To finish out the half, it was Sousa again with another goal, this time assisted by defender Estefania Cardona on a brilliant ball from the back line. The Reivers went into half time 3-0.
Coming out after half, Iowa Western maintained good control throughout the remainder of the match, but struggled to find the Tritons net. In the 90th minute with the ball bouncing around Central's 6 yard box, it was Kauany Sousa with another goal, her third of the match. The match ended with a 4-0 victory over the Iowa Central Tritons in the Region XI Championship.
NOTES & NUMBERS: Kauany earned a hat trick, making it 25 goals on the season for the freshman forward. Blanca Osorio produced her 5th assist on the year. Whitney Dockweiler etched another shutout, her 12th this year.
QUOTES: Head Coach Adam Sanchez: "We came out laser focused this match, with the intent and determination to win. Our players moved the ball well and created a lot of scoring opportunities, which is always critical. We have some big goals this year and today's win was just a stepping stone in the right direction."
