Reivers Find Success at The Next Level

Over the years the Reivers have had student-athletes move on to various Division 1 and 2 Universities. Currently there are numerous alumni excelling at those levels. They have found great success on a team and an individual level.

Caleb Huffman, a senior at Nicholls State has excelled this season. Huffman was a member of the Reivers from 2018-20. This season at Nicholls, Huffman has averaged 16 points 5 rebounds and 2 assists. He was named to the All-Southland First Team and the All-Defensive Team for his efforts. He poured in a career high 32 points against IUW on 2/18/23. He reached double digit scoring in 25 of the 30 games he appeared in this season.

The next former Reiver, Josiah Strong was a one year starter for the Reivers during the 2019-20 season. He spent two seasons at Illinois State where he started 44 games while averaging over 11 points a game. He then decided to enter the transfer portal to use his graduate year this season at Colorado State. He chose the Rams over the likes of California, Oklahoma and Wake Forest. He has averaged over 4 points a game for the Rams this season.

Jalen Dalencourt is excelling for the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns. Dalencourt spent the 2019-20 seasons in Iowa as he averaged 11 points per game for the Reivers. At Louisiana the Ragin Cajuns won the regular season title in the Sun Belt Conference and punched their ticket to the Big Dance. Dalencourt has been a constant presence in the lineup. He scored a season high 13 points against James Madison on 2/18/23. For the season he is averaging 6 points per game.

Amadou Sylla is currently a member of the UNC Asheville men's basketball program. They recently won the Big South Regular Season title as well as the postseason tournament punching their ticket to the Big Dance. This is Sylla?s first year with the Bulldogs as a graduate transfer after spending the previous three seasons with Tennessee Tech. Sylla has appeared in 22 games this season for the Bulldogs.

Shaun Doss who is currently at Arkansas Pine Bluff where is the team's leading scorer. Over the season he has averaged 18 points per game while scoring a season best 32 versus Jackson State. The graduate student is also averaging 5 rebounds and 2 assists per game.

The next Reiver to excel is Kaleb Thornton who is currently a senior point guard at Northern Illinois University. Thornton spent one season in Council Bluffs where he averaged 11 points and 3 assists before moving on to NIU. At NIU Thornton has made 45 starts over his 3 years while averaging a career best this season at 8.9 points and 5.3 assists.

Roland McCoy, a two year member of the Reivers who averaged 16 points a year during the 2021-22 campaign is currently playing at Alabama State, a member of the SWAC. McCoy has enjoyed his first year with the Hornets. McCoy has appeared in 29 contests while starting 16 of those. He scored a career high 18 points against Alabama A&M while knocking down 6 three point shots. For the season he is averaging 7 points and 2 rebounds a game.

Dhashon Dyson spent the 2020-21 season as a member of the Reivers. He is currently playing for Bethune-Cookman in the SWAC. The same league that former teammate Roland McCoy is in. Dyson has appeared in 16 games this season and is averaging 11 points per game. Always known for his ability to shoot the ball, Dyson is shooting 37 percent from the three point line.

Marcedus Leech spent the 2020-21 season with the Reivers and is currently at Davenport University. As a redshirt sophomore this season Leech was named to the First Team All-GLIAC team after averaging 20 points per game which was good for second best in the conference. It was also the third best in school history. He shot a very efficient 45 percent from the field, 40 percent from the three point line and 81 percent from the free throw line. He matched his career high this season with 35 points at Northern Michigan. Through two seasons for the Panthers he has accumulated 895 points.

After spending two seasons in Council Bluffs, Dewayne Vass is currently playing for the Maryville Saints. Vass has made an immediate contribution to his new team as he broke the single season assist record with 137 assists. Along with averaging over 5 assists per game he scored 11 points a game while appearing in 27 games. Vass will have 2 more years of eligibility with the Saints.

Malik Brooks spent one year at Iowa Western after transferring from Canisius College. He averaged 14 points a game and moved on to play at Roberts Wesleyan in Rochester, NY. This season at Roberts he averaged a team best 12.6 points a game along with 3 rebounds. The Redhawks won their first round playoff game before falling in the second round.

Jaden Flournoy also spent one season in Council Bluffs before moving on to Elizabeth City State University. This season with Elizabeth City Flournoy made immediate contributions as he started in 28 games while averaging just under 10 points per game. Along with that he averaged 4 rebounds and over 1 assist. Flournoy's versatility made him a constant in the line up with the Reivers and also this year at ECSU.

These former Reivers have had serious success after moving on from Iowa Western and to the four year level.
