Reivers Take Down Spartans
CRESTON, Iowa - Iowa Western Men's Basketball traveled to Creston, Iowa on Tuesday for the first ICCAC Conference matchup of the season vs Southwestern Community College. The Reivers would waste no time as they jumped out to an early 12-0 lead and would never trail during the contest. A couple of sloppy turnovers would keep the Spartans within striking distance in the first half, but the Reivers took a 34-22 advantage into the halftime break. Iowa Western held the Spartans to just 32% from the floor in the first half of play.
Midway through the second half the Reivers extended their lead to 18 points after Zayden Best knocked and JP Sumo knocked down a pair of 3-pointers. The Reivers would cruise for the remainder of the contest and came away with a big conference road win. Zayden Best continued his solid play with a 23 point performance. Best connected on 4 of 10 attempts from the 3-point line and had 3 steals. JP Sumo had a big game off the bench for the Reivers has he scored 12 points, grabbed 5 rebounds, and dished out 2 assists. Judah Vignery just missed a double-double with 10 points and 9 rebounds, and Nate Parras finished with 7 points and 9 rebounds.
Iowa Western is now 9-0 on the season and 1-0 in the ICCAC. The Reivers will enjoy a short break before returning to action next Tuesday as they travel to Kansas City, Missouri to take on Metropolitan Community College for a second matchup. The Reivers defeated Metropolitan 80-72 on November 11th.
