Reivers Stay Undefeated at Northeast
NORFOLK, Neb. - The Iowa Western men's basketball team traveled to Norfolk, Nebraska on Wednesday evening for a matchup with the Northeast Community College Hawks. The Reivers and the Hawks would go back-and-forth in the first half of play, and the Reivers would take a slight advantage into the halftime break with a score of 36-32.
The Reivers came out of the break hot as they quickly pushed the lead up to 14 points just a few minutes into the half. The Hawks would not go away, as they turned up their defense and caused some Reiver turnovers that led to easy baskets. The Hawks would climb all the way back and even took a brief 2-point lead late in the contest. Down late JP Sumo got fouled and converted 1 of 2 at the line, but on the ensuing possession the Reivers full court press caused a turnover which led to an easy score to regain the lead. Iowa Western would go on to close out the game at the free-throw line.
The Reivers saw 5 players reach double digits in scoring. Zayden Best led all scorers with 24 points on 9 of 16 from the floor. Judah Vignery had a big game with 19 points on 6 of 11 shooting. JP Sumo and Nate Parras both scored 14 points and Parras also grabbed 8 boards. Jordan Dewaele finished with 11 points.
Iowa Western is now 12-0 on the season, and 3-0 in the ICCAC. The Reivers will host #8 Kirkwood Community College on Saturday in Reiver Arena at 3:00 pm.
