Reivers Sweep the Spartans
COUNCIL BLUFFS - The Iowa Western men's basketball team picked up its 21st win of the season on Wednesday night with an 84-68 victory over the Southwestern Community College Spartans. The Reivers wasted no time as they quickly jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the early going of the first half. Iowa Western took a 14-point lead into the halftime break with a score of 44-30.
In the second half, the Reivers would push their lead up to as much as 22 points, but Southwestern kept fighting and made timely runs to keep the contest interesting. Southwestern connected on back-to-back 3-pointers late in the game to cut the deficit to just 12 points, but the Reivers proved to be too much for the Spartans.
Zayden Best and Judah Vignery were both red-hot from the 3-point line as both connected on 6 made triples for the game. Zayden Best inked a double-double with 28 points and 10 rebounds. Vignery finished with 20 points and 4 assists. JP Sumo put together a nice performance with 11 points and a game-high 7 assists.
With the win, the Reivers are 21-7 overall on the season and 11-7 in the ICCAC. Next, Iowa Western will travel to Iowa Falls for a matchup with the Ellsworth Community College Panthers.
