Thomas Craig To Play in European Faldo Grand Championship
Sophomore Thomas Craig is getting ready to participate in the 25th Faldo Series European Grand Championship taking place at The Melbourne Club at Brocket Hall in Hertfordshire, UK. The Championship will take place Oct. 25th-27th and brings together all champions for the year at the various European tournaments. Craig qualified for the Championship by winning the Faldo Series Scotland Championship earlier this summer.
"To win a Faldo event is a great accomplishment and to be able to play against some of the best amateurs from all over Europe in this final will be fun. I'm kind of disappointed they moved the final back to the UK, it was originally to be played in Dubai. But with COVID I understand why they had to make the move," said Craig.
The Faldo Series promotes the game of golf with amateurs from around the world. The series is run by Sir Nick Faldo's son. Past winners of the European Championship include current Professionals Rory McIlroy, Oliver Fisher, Jack Senior, and David Horsey just to name a few. The winner of this event will then play in the Grand Finale taking place in Laguna Lang Co, Vietnam. From there Sir Nick will arrange the winner of the Grand Finale to participate in a Professional Tour Event.
"It's great to see current and past Iowa Western golfers have success in their home country. It's humbling to have them be a part of our team and represent Iowa Western at these events," said Head Coach Matt Robinson. "Thomas is playing some good golf right now and I look forward to seeing how he does in this event."
