Reiver Men Complete Their Fall Season
The Reiver Men concluded their fall season on a positive note. The men competed at the NJCAA National Preview hosted by Hutchinson CC at Sand Creek Station Golf Course. The preview is used to bring together the best Junior college teams to compete on the golf course that will be used for the National Championship in the Spring.
The tournament was cut short from the beginning due to frost/freeze conditions in the morning. What was originally supposed to be a 54-hole event was changed to a 36 hole event over 2 days. The men got off to a good start in Round 1 shooting a score of 300 and putting them in the 9th spot out of 17 teams. A few highlights came from Freshman Ty Potter who recorded a round of 70 (-2). This score put Potter in the top ten. Fellow Freshman William Walsh and Sophomore Steven Gormley recorded rounds of 73 (+1) to help the team scoring.
Day 2/Round 2 brought better scoring which helped the Reivers jump 3 spots to finish in 6th place over-all. A well-rounded scoring from top to bottom helped with these efforts. Welsh led the Reivers with an even par score, Potter birdied his final hole of the day to finish 1 under par and in 11th place over-all. Sam Wahman also had a solid round of +1 followed by Gormely +2, and Llyod Hughes and Ethan Main with 74's.
The men hope to crack the Top 10 rankings in the last Coaches poll coming out in the middle of Nov. "We had a good fall season over-all," said Head Coach Matt Robinson. "We still have a lot to work on in the off season. But, if we can get in the top 10, it will make the next 3-4 months a lot easier and I want them to put the time in to be ready in the Spring."
