COUNCIL BLUFFS - NJCAA D1 No.1 Iowa Western Men's Soccer drew 2-2 with NJCAA D2 No.7 Central CC-Columbus on Thursday evening at the John & Harriet Wiebe Complex.
The Reivers (2-0-2) struck first in the 42nd minute on a long throw-in by Jin Ichikawa that found the head of Freshman Guesly Alexandre, who snuck it near post past Raider Goalkeeper George Potter.
Central (3-0-1) answered six minutes into the second half when the Raiders' back line played a long ball up the middle that was touched to the far side of the penalty box by Kristof Memeth to Luca Reicher, who touched it back to Nemeth, and he buried it past Goalkeeper Fausto Delgado to level the game.
Iowa Western retook the lead on another long throw-in by Ichikawa that deflected off the hand of Central's Potter and down to the foot of Sophomore Efraims Valutadatils and he put it away on one touch for the 2-1 lead.
With just 8 minutes remaining in the match, the Reivers gave up possession in their defensive half, and the Raiders' Juan Lopez found Leo Morley-Robertson on the near side of the penalty box, and he shot it back across the face of the goal past a diving Delgado for the score and the draw.
Iowa Western is back in action on Saturday evening vs Iowa Lakes Community College at 7:00 pm from the John & Harriet Wiebe Complex.
