COUNCIL BLUFFS - Iowa Western Men's Soccer took down Jefferson CC 3-2 in a thrilling Saturday night match.
The Reivers (3-0-2) pressured the Vikings from the start, outshooting the Vikings 8-0 in the first half. Freshman Yamato Urakami opened up the scoring on a penalty kick after he was taken down in the box in the 27th minute. Urakami struck a bullet to the left side of the goal for his second of the season.
Less than four minutes later, it was Urakami again, this time combination passing from Armand Kadiamba and Kyohei Eguchi set him up for a shot from the near side of the goal and into the far side-netting for his second of the match.
Jefferson finally broke through in the 78th minute when Lorenzo Gonzalez hammered a ball low and past Goalkeeper Fausto Delgado to make it a 2-1 game. A minute later, the Reivers were whistled for a foul in the box, and the Vikings were awarded a PK. Daniel Penaranda leveled the match past the diving Delgado into the left side of the net.
Iowa Western responded on a free kick in the 80th minute that was headed into the box by Carlos Casillas-Lopez, Felipe Braga touched it towards the middle of the goal and Sophomore defender Caden Johnson came sliding in to put it away for the game-winner.
The Reivers will be back in action at home on Wednesday evening at 6:00 pm versus Hawkeye CC.
