Reivers Roll Past Coe College in Dominant Dual Meet Performance
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Iowa Western Reivers Swim Team continued to make waves in their second season with a commanding performance against Coe College on November 1, 2025. The Reivers earned a decisive, 343–168, combined victory, with the men outscoring Coe 211–53 and the women securing a 132–115 win.
The Reiver women set the tone early with strong swims across every event. Sammy Diaz led the charge, capturing three individual titles in the 1000 Freestyle (10:57.46), 500 Freestyle (5:19.97), and 200 IM (2:25.35). Onye Onovo added a win in the 200 Freestyle (2:12.39) and was a key contributor in the sprint and relay events. Allison Elings continued her standout season with victories in the 100 Butterfly (1:04.72) and 50 Butterfly (28.16), while also anchoring the winning 200 Freestyle Relay (1:45.01) alongside Diaz, Bre Dent, and Onovo. Emily Walters claimed the 100 Backstroke (1:08.02) and helped the Reivers to strong finishes in both relay events, and Kaylee Johnson earned a first-place finish in the 50 Breaststroke (35.10).
On the men's side, the Reivers controlled the meet from start to finish. Sam Brunel once again showcased his versatility, winning the 100 Freestyle (47.10), 500 Freestyle (4:51.51), and 200 IM (1:56.58), while leading the Reivers to victories in both the 200 Medley Relay (1:39.73) and 200 Freestyle Relay (1:31.37). Bernat Marsol Sarri swept the butterfly events, taking the 100 Butterfly (50.46) and 50 Butterfly (22.69). Jimmy Koch continued his strong freshman season with wins in the 1000 Freestyle (10:33.21) and 50 Freestyle (22.17), while Cesar Guerrero Vivas swept the breaststroke events, winning both the 50 (27.93) and 100 (1:00.22). Nolan Hamerlinck added victories in both the 50 Backstroke (27.69) and 100 Backstroke (1:01.64), and Ryan Lane claimed the 200 Freestyle (1:50.94) to round out an impressive day for the men's squad.
Head Coach Mykenzie Liston praised her team's energy and resilience throughout the meet, saying, "This is what Reiver Swimming is all about. The ability to show results in the middle of a tough training block and still bring that level of excitement and energy was amazing. It's so fun to see this program in just its second year, and that credit goes entirely to the swimmers."
The Reivers will be back in action next weekend at the University of Nebraska–Kearney Invite, held Friday, November 7, and Saturday, November 8.
