Carlier Sets Mile Record
AMES, Iowa - The Reivers returned to action this time at the Iowa State Cyclone Open. Pierre Carlier led the way, breaking the school record in the mile with a 4:05.55, the 3rd best mark in the country to finish in 11thplace. He also ran 1:50.50, good for 5th place and the #3 mark in school history. Both marks are national qualifiers. Teammate Ali Benzem also punched his ticket to nationals with a 1:54.68.
Cyril Sumner was the lone event winner for the Reivers on the day. He won the 600y in 1:11.45, good for #3 in school history.
In the Women's long jump, Absa Ba had a strong season opener with a 5.71m and 3rd place finish to punch her ticket to nationals. Lyric Butcher was not far behind, finishing in 4th place with a season best 5.62m.
Mary Laha ran a 7.67 in the 60m to finish 3rd and qualify for nationals to post the #9 mark in school history.
Maya Bergstrom Weekes ran a collegiate best of 8.79 to finish 3rd in the 60m hurdles. Her mark is #7 in the nation and #8 in school history.
In the men's 60m hurdles Adam Dingley ran a collegiate best of 8.24 to finish 4th place.
Hafssa Boutrich posted a strong finish in the mile with the 2nd best mark in the country in 4:57.52 and #3 in school history for a 4th place finish. Widjane Inzaline opened her season in the mile with a 5:11.25 the #6 mark in school history and 13th place finish to stamp a spot at nationals.
In the men's high jump Angel Lopez posted a personal best with a 1.96m clearing to finish 4th place.
In the 1000m, Mya Curtis qualified for nationals with a 3:04.45 13th place effort.
Next weekend the competition will be held at the Ichabod Open, a 2 day meet held at Washburn University January 30- 31.
