Strong Weekend Performance for Track & Field
Iowa Western Track & Field turned in a strong weekend of performances, highlighted by national qualifiers, podium finishes, and multiple personal bests across events.
In the field events, Arthur Leandro de Sousa posted an impressive mark of 17.89m in the shot put to move to 2nd in the nation, while Lovely Hibbert added a solid 12.66m performance. Koen Zandvliet contributed a strong throw of 47.44m in the discus. On the women's side, Taeja Bartee led the way with a 3rd-place finish in triple jump at 11.57m, closely followed by Nickiya Shields in 4th at 11.56m. Wichieng Hosynang added another top-5 finish with a 13.13m mark for 4th place. August Anderson cleared 1.95m in the high jump to place 7th.
Leading the way on the track, Alyssa Kulesa secured a national qualifying mark in the 1500m with a time of 4:49.06. Moustafa Tea also punched his ticket to nationals, running 3:56.70 in the 1500m to earn a 3rd place finish. In the 800m, Juliana Sakat delivered one of the top performances in school history, placing 4th in 2:09.78—now ranking #2 all-time for the Reivers. Antonella Lanuza added a collegiate best of 2:15.03 in the same event, continuing her strong progression this season, while Harel Gameti recorded a huge personal best of 21.76 in the 200m.
The Reivers also saw success in the middle-distance events, as Pierre Carlier finished 2nd in the 800m with a time of 1:49.64, while Ali Benzem added a 6th place finish in 1:51.01.
At the Central Missouri Mule Relays, Antonella Lanuza posted a 2nd-place finish in the 1500m with a time of 4:39.58, while Mya Curtis also earned a runner-up finish in the 3000m steeplechase, clocking 10:58.09. Lucas Nelson (1:53.14) and Landon Hartley (1:54.48) added solid efforts in the 800m to round out a successful meet.
Next up, the Reivers will send a small squad to the Azusa Pacific Bryan Clay Invitational and the Nebraska Kearney Loper Invitational.
