Council Bluffs, IA – A new season brings new energy, purpose, and ambition to the Iowa Western women's basketball team. The team is ready to rise to the challenge. With a strong core of returning players and a talented group of newcomers, the Reivers enter the year focused.
Last season, Iowa Western showcased growth, grit, and flashes of brilliance that laid the foundation for what promises to be an exciting year ahead. With a challenging schedule on tap, the Reivers are focused on competing at a high level and continuing the proud tradition of women's basketball at Iowa Western.
"We like the group we have this year," said Coach Loll. "Our returners bring leadership and experience, and our newcomers have stepped in ready to work. We want to build on the momentum from last season and push ourselves every day to reach our potential."
"This team has the opportunity to shine," Coach Loll said. "Our returners know what it takes, and our newcomers have already bought into our culture. We are excited with the depth and quality of young ladies we have in the program."
Key Returners
The Reivers bring back 6 players from last year's roster, including Sydney Donaldson who will anchor the lineup with experience, leadership, and scoring. Aniyah Howard and Savanah Appel also return as proven scorers and defenders, while Tiana Johnson and Tonia Matthews are expected to take on bigger roles after strong off seasons. Their familiarity with the program and work ethic set the tone for the younger players.

Joining the veteran core is a group of exciting newcomers, highlighted by Kailynne Small a transfer, Sophie Sarratt, Jade Lewis, Assata Lytle, Jordyn Rohlfsen, Hadley Meyer, Reagan Palmer, Grace Albertson, Kaity Driskell, and Bra'Ni Jackson. The added athleticism and versatility give Iowa Western multiple options both offensively and defensively, as well as much needed depth.
"They've raised the level of competition in practice, will make us better every day, and have the ability to contribute to the program immediately," Coach Loll said.
Building the Standard
Beyond the X's and O's, Coach Loll and the Reivers are focused on building a culture of accountability, toughness, and togetherness. Team leaders have emphasized communication, daily improvement, and holding each other to high standards both on and off the court.
"We want Reiver Nation to be proud of how we play and who we are," Coach Loll said.
"Our goal is to play an exciting, unselfish brand of basketball that Reiver Nation can be proud of. This group is hungry and motivated, and we can't wait to get started," states Coach Loll
