Women's Basketball State Fair Preview
Iowa Western Reivers Women's Basketball team has two good opportunities this weekend against Allen County CC on Friday 3 pm and State Fair CC on Saturday 3 pm, to evaluate the growth that has taken place since they last played these two teams.
The Reivers are excited for this opportunity to compete in the State Fair CC Thanksgiving Classic.
Friday vs Allen County CC
· Expect Iowa Western to lean again on rebounding and tempo, trying to create extra possessions on the glass and early offense before Allen can get set defensively.
· Allen County, coming out of the Kansas Jayhawk league, typically sees physical nightly competition, so this should be a toughness test that highlights Iowa Western's depth and ability to wear teams down over four quarters.
· If Iowa Western's perimeter shooting stays hot, the Reivers can stretch Allen's defense and open driving lanes; if the threes aren't falling, second-chance points and paint touches will be the key to controlling the game.
Saturday vs State Fair CC
· State Fair CC is athletic and aggressive, so this matchup likely emphasizes ball security and transition defense for Iowa Western, especially on the second day of a back-to-back.
· Expect the Reivers to try to establish an early tone on the boards and in half-court defense, forcing State Fair to execute in the half court instead of running freely.
· Depth and conditioning should matter here; if Iowa Western can keep rotations fresh and avoid foul trouble, the Reivers should be in good position late in the game.
What to watch for both days
· Can Iowa Western maintain its rebounding edge and continue to generate extra possessions on the offensive glass?
· Are the Reivers still knocking down threes at a high clip, or do they need to grind out wins with defense and interior scoring?
· How well they handle two different styles in two days will be an early indicator of how ready this group is for regional-level competition later in the season.
