#15 Reivers Push #1 Indian Hills to the Brink in Thrilling 20-17 Dual
Centerville, IA — In what will go down as one of the most electric duals of the NJCAA season, No. 15 Iowa Western went toe-to-toe with No. 1 Indian Hills on Wednesday night, coming within a few points of pulling off one of the biggest upsets in the country before the Warriors narrowly escaped with a 20–17 victory.
At 125lbs, No. 5 Noah Jones put the Reivers on the board in the first bout of the night. In a tightly contested match from the opening whistle, Jones capped it with a sudden-victory takedown, securing a 4–1 SV decision.
The Warriors would turn momentum back in their favor, earning decision victories at 133 lbs and 141lbs, and a major decision victory at 149 lbs.
Logan Crowther was able to get the Reivers back on track at 157 lbs, delivering one of the biggest moments of the night, knocking off No. 1 Jahkari Clark in a thrilling 10–8 decision victory.
Following another Warrior win at 165 lbs, No. 7 Matteo Nikolov turned in another clutch performance, defeating No. 1 Cinsere Clark by 4–1 decision and getting the Reivers back on course.
At 184 lbs, Cal Wells capitalized on the momentum and earned a victory by fall, propelling the Reivers to their first lead since the 125lb bout. At 197lb, Tony Palmer kept the Reivers in the win column, earning an 8-6 decision victory over #2 Andrew Marquez.
The Warriors were able to ultimately avoid the upset, earning a fall in the final match of the night.
