COUNCIL BLUFFS - NJCAA No. 1 Iowa Western Men's Soccer defeated Hawkeye CC 5-0 on Wednesday evening at the John & Harriet Wiebe Complex.
The Reivers (4-0-2) struck first in the 38th minute when Midfielder Hayato Takayama had a deflected ball fall to his feet inside the box, and the Sophomore buried it into the side-netting to take a 1-0 lead into the break.
Goal number two came in the 57th minute when Quelou Ayemi was taken down inside the penalty area, and Sophomore Forward Carlos Camara struck it low and left, with pace, for the goal.
The Redtail offense (3-2-0) provided minimal threat to the Reiver defense. Their first shot on goal, coming midway through the second half, was easily saved by the Goalkeeper Fausto Delgado.
Iowa Western added three more goals in the second half, including a banger off a free kick by Sophomore Angel Lopez that curled right to left, freezing the Redtail Goalkeeper. The home team outshot the visitors 25-2 on the night, 14 of those coming in the first half.
The Reivers are back in action on Saturday at 7:00 pm from the Wiebe Complex against Iowa Lakes CC.
