COUNCIL BLUFFS - Another February day in the upper 60s, another Iowa Western Softball Sweep. The Reivers took a pair of 8-0 run-rule games from ICCAC DII foe Ellsworth CC (0-2) at the Dr. John & Jean Marshall Baseball/Softball Complex.
Freshman Pitcher Saydee Plummer threw just 55 pitches and didn't allow a hit to the Panthers over the five frames of game one while striking out six Panther batters. Her only blemish was hitting Emmalee Bell in the top of the second inning.
Iowa Western (4-0) had the bats going from the jump as Freshman Kennedy Borud launched the third pitch of the game from Jolene Jordahl over the left field scoreboard to put the Reivers up 1-0. IWCC added two more unearned runs in the second inning and then put a 3-spot up on the board in the third behind an RBI single from Ruclaireth Tovar Rodríguez and a sacrifice fly from Lauren Black.
Freshman Shortstop Taylin Tabor recorded her sixth RBI of the season on a fourth-inning double, while Sophomore Kinlee Rinacke drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the 5th to score the game-ending run.
For Plummer, this is the first no-hitter of her Reiver career and the sixth no-hitter for Reiver Softball in the last three seasons. The last no-hitter came just 292 days ago vs Southwestern CC when Olivia Dougherty tossed her second perfect game of the year.
In game two, Iowa Western again struck early in the first on another RBI double from Tabor. In the second inning, Borud smashed a 3-run bomb over the left-field wall for her team-leading third home run of the year. The Reivers added two more runs in the fifth and walked it off on a sacrifice fly by Amelia Ehlert, scoring Tabor from third in the sixth.
Freshman Right-Handed Pitcher Logan Brown worked five innings, allowing just two hits to earn her first win of the season.
Iowa Western will head to Branson, MO, for its first road trip of the season, taking on Labette and Neosho County on Saturday, followed by a double header with Three Rivers College and Allen County on Sunday afternoon.
