COUNCIL BLUFFS - NJCAA DI No. 22 Iowa Western softball defeated NJCAA DIII No. 1 North Dakota State College of Science three games to four over the weekend.
The Reivers (26-2) split Saturday's games, winning 4-2 in game one and dropping game two, 9-5.
On Sunday, the Reiver bats came alive as the team launched six home runs on a windy afternoon. Freshman Kiana LeDoux was a solo shot away from a cycle of long-balls, hitting a two-run shot in the third inning and a grand slam in the sixth inning of game one to help the team to a 10-3 win. Three innings into game two, it was a 3-run bomb over the centerfield wall, part of an 8-run inning as Iowa Western took down the Wildcats (23-4) 11-1 in five innings.
LeDoux finished the series 4-7 with 3 HR, 9 RBI, and 3 runs. Freshman shortstop Taylin Tabor continued her impressive 28-game hitting streak, notching a pair of hits in game one and a single in the third inning of game two.
Sophomore Saydee Plummer improved her record to 11-0 this season, with 76 strikeouts and an ERA of 2.24 in 68.2 innings of work. Logan Brown earned the win in game two, giving up just one hit over four innings and striking out three.
Amelia Ehlert, Brooke Koenigsman, and Kennedy Borud also homered on Sunday afternoon to power the team past the top-ranked team in NJCAA DIII this season.
The Reivers will hit the road on Tuesday afternoon for a pair of games versus Southeast CC in Beatrice, NE, then head to Ottumwa, IA, to open up ICCAC Conference play versus Indian Hills on Saturday.
