COUNCIL BLUFFS - Iowa Western Softball needed just 10 innings to sweep a doubleheader against Marshalltown CC on Friday afternoon at the Dr. John & Jean Marshall Softball/Baseball Complex.
The Reivers (33-5 | 6-2) plated 38 runs across both games, 19-1 and 19-3, powered by five home runs and 19 extra base hits. Freshman Kennedy Borud smashed a 2-run home run in game one, then a 3-run bomb in game two, ending her day 4-7 with 6 RBI.
Freshman Shortstop Taylin Tabor extended her on-base streak to 38 with a hit in game one and a double in game two, and is batting .536 in her first season in the Bluffs. Sophomore Right-Handed Pitcher Saydee Plummer improved her record to 15-1, giving up just three hits and striking out six in four innings of work to earn the win in game one.
Freshman Centerfielder Brooke Koeningsman ended her afternoon going 4-7 with a grand slam in game two and 8 RBI. Eight different Reivers recorded double-digit RBI and all but three players who came to the plate scored a run in the series.
Iowa Western will be back in action on Thursday, April 16th at 2:00 pm versus Southeast CC (NE) at the Marshall Complex.
