COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa – Iowa Western Volleyball opened up the 2025 season hosting the Dennis South Memorial Reiver Classic from Reiver Arena.
IWCC took both games on day one, defeating Western Nebraska in straight sets, 25-21, 25-19, and 25-21. The Reivers then faced Hutchinson CC, coached by former Reiver Libero and Assistant Coach, Dayana Acevedo Trent. Iowa Western came out of the gates hot, taking sets one and two, 25-16 and 25-15. The Blue Dragons rallied in set three, winning 25-17.
Set four was a thriller, after IWCC opened up with a 5-0 lead. Hutchinson eventually tied the game at 20 and again at 21 and 22, but the Reivers staved off their attack each time. Freshman Middle Lelia Fitz buried her final attack to close out the match, 25-23, to win the game 3-1.
Day two saw the team take on Butler CC, and again, the Coach Ramos' squad opened up with a 2-0 lead before the Grizzlies dominated the third set, taking it 25-14. Iowa Western regrouped and tamed the Grizzlies in set four, 25-16.
The final game of the classic came against Salt Lake CC. The Reivers found themselves down early on in set one, but clawed their way back to make the score 24-23 Bruins, but Salt Lake was too much as they took the set 25-23. The Bruins knocked the wind out of the sails of the Reivers in sets two and three, taking both easily 25-16 and 25-15. Iowa Western finished their classic 3-1, the program's best start to a season since the 2021 Fall season, where the team finished 33-4 that year.
